Howard Centre: Teen with imitation firearm sees armed police response

Armed police were called to the Howard Centre on Wednesday after a teenager was found with an imitation firearm in Welwyn Garden City.

Officers were called at 7.35pm on December 28 following reports of a male in possession of what was believed to be a firearm in the Osborn Way.

Armed response officers attended the scene, and a search was carried out to find the suspect, with the Howard Centre briefly closing as a safety precaution.

A 15-year-old boy was detained and a bag containing plastic ball bearings was found, with further searches locating what appeared to be an imitation firearm.

Enquiries are continuing at this time and the boy is due to be interviewed by officers.
