CeramicSpeed unveils OSPW Aero

Oct 07, 2023Oct 07, 2023

Drivetrain efficiency specialist, CeramicSpeed, has unveiled its new OSPW Aero. The new Oversized Pulley Wheel (OSPW) system for a bike's rear derailleur comes with a carbon cover, which is used to optimise air flow.

Featuring a 13-tooth upper pulley wheel and a 19-tooth lower pulley wheel, the upper and lower oversized aluminium pulley wheels come fitted with coated CeramicSpeed bearings.

With hand-built CeramicSpeed bearings installed in each pulley, the aero-optimised OSPW System has a lifetime warranty when choosing coated or SLT bearings.

Danish company CeramicSpeed notes that the larger radius of the pulley wheels directly translates into a smaller bend of each link in the chain that passes through the pulley. This, in turn, results in less drag loss.

After minimizing the friction forces in both the bearings and the chain, attention was paid to the aerodynamic aspect of the OSPW structure. To this end, the company turned to Simon Smart, the founder of the British company Drag2Zero.

After two years of work supported by hours in the wind tunnel, the CeramicSpeedOSPW Aero has been unveiled.

According to the company, compared to a stock derailleur setup… ‘a pro rider [can save] 2.5 seconds during a 25km time trial ridden at a quick 50km/h pace, while a competitive age-group triathlete riding at 30km/h will save 1 minute and 15 seconds over a full distance IRONMAN.’

Priced at €739, the new OSPW Aero is available for Shimano 9250 and 8150, Shimano 9100 and 8000, and SRAM Red/Force AXS.
