CeramicSpeed UFO series adds drivetrain, bearing cleaners & greases

Oct 18, 2023Oct 18, 2023

CeramicSpeed's UFO lineup has just expanded to include two new categories, cleaners and greases, to make your bike faster than ever. The cleaners remove the gunk and any wax buildup from their UFO Drip lubes and treated chains, as well as cleaning out bearings to prep them for three new condition-specific grease options.

The UFO Clean Drivetrain spray is a biodegradable, eco-friendly cleaner to get the grease and old wax lube off your chain, cassette, and chainrings. The 1-Liter spray bottle retails for $32 and is meant to be sprayed directly onto the drivetrain parts.

Saturate the parts, then let it sit for three minutes to break down the gunk, but they recommend trying not to get overspray on the disc brake pads. Then just scrub like normal, paying attention to get into the chain's roller links, where they say you’ll get the maximum efficiency gains from cleaning and re-lubing. Let it sit for a few minutes and it should push grit, grime and old wax out to the surface, then spray it down, let it sit again, and then wipe it down once it's looking finished.

The UFO Clean Bearings ($30, 100ml bottle) is a dropper-applied degreaser made specifically for bearings, from BB to headset to hubs to pulley wheels. It can be applied directly on the bike, letting it sit for about five minutes to break down the old grease. Then use compressed air (can or air compressor) to flush out the old grease. Rinse a second time with the cleaner, flush again with air, then apply one of the new greases below…

CeramicSpeed's entry into bearing grease comes in three flavors, giving you options for the type of riding you’ll be doing.

All Round Grease: Designed to suit the maintenance of CeramicSpeed Bearings, the All-Round Grease should maximize your bearings’ lifetime and performance. It's a low-to-medium viscosity lubricant that splits the difference between friction reduction and durability. It's mainly aimed at dry road riding conditions, but will work for off-road applications where there won't be much potential for mud or grit. They recommend a fill rate of 60-80% (check the UFO Clean Bearing demo video for a visual of this)

Long Life Grease: This one delivers the best protection and lifetime of your bearings even in the harshest riding conditions. It's intended for wet conditions, off-road riding, or for use on non-coated bearings. It's a medium viscosity with a slightly higher friction coefficient than the All Round grease. Recommended fill rate is 70-100%, depending on the weather conditions and riding application.

Race Day Grease: Race Day is for riding short time trials or track, designed to deliver as low friction as possible thanks to the Dynamic Viscosity Transformation (DVT) technology used in its formula. So…what is DVT?

From CeramicSpeed: "When the CeramicSpeed Race Day Grease lubricating film is subject to the high pressure at the point of contact between the ball and race, the Race Day Grease instantly changes its state to a lower kinematic viscosity, similar to that of a light oil. The DVT technology provides the best of both worlds for the rider – the low friction properties of a light oil combined with the longevity of a light grease. This grease is ideal for ceramic bearings and is suitable for steel bearings as well. When greasing the bearings, the recommended fill rate on road is 25-30% and on track 15-20%. Re-lubrication is required more frequently when using Race Day Grease."

Retail ranges from $20 to $35, depending on the formula. All products are available now.
